George B. McClellan

Union general (1826–1885) hailed at the beginning of the Civil War as the ‘Young Napoleon,’ who was defeated for the presidency in 1864 by Abraham Lincoln. ALS signed “Geo. B. McClellan,” one page, 4.75 x 8, March 25. Letter of thanks to [Union Brigadier General Philip] Schuyler. In full: “I return, with many thanks, the life of Scarduby, that you were good enough to send to me. I have read it with great interest & pleasure.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, and a few spots of mild toning. Accompanied by mailing envelope, bearing an image of McClellan. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
