Description

Grace Coolidge’s Handmade Rose Chiffon Stole

Stately rose-pink stole of the highest quality, handmade by Grace Coolidge herself, lined with light gray silk and intricately decorated with delicate gray and beige hand-embroidered floral applique. The stole, measuring 7´ 5″ long and 1´ wide, has delicate fringed tassels at both ends. Includes a detailed letter of provenance on White House letterhead from Lillian Rogers Parks, who was a best selling author as well as housekeeper and seamstress at the White House for over 30 years, from President Hoover through President Eisenhower. In part: “This lovely rose/pink stole was handmade by Grace Coolidge…The First Lady gave this to my Mama, Maggie Rogers, First Maid of the White House, just before Herbert Hoover was elected President in 1928. My Mama and Mrs. Coolidge did a lot of sewing together. Mrs. Coolidge loved to sew on the sun porch of the third floor.” Condition is extra fine.
