Description

Scarce pardon issued in 1845

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 7.75 x 9.5, October 11, 1845. President Polk directs the secretary of state “to affix the Seal of the United States to the pardon of Virgil M. Rose, and for his release from imprisonment.” Boldly signed at the conclusion by Polk. Affixed by the left side to a slightly larger sheet. In fine condition, with a couple areas of subtly toned adhesive remnants and a thumbprint to the right edge. Polk pardons are quite uncommon, this being just the fifth we have offered. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
