Description

Jane Addams

American social reformer (1860–1935) who shared the 1931 Nobel Peace Prize. Collection of six letters, three ALSs and three TLSs, all one page, all addressed to Mr. or Mrs. Charles B. Ball, dated from 1904–1928. One letter from 1904 reads, in part: “I hope very much that his good news extends to the Krupp Exhibit…Some of the most interesting things from the housing point of view were in that building, and it would be great good luck, if we could secure them. May I ask you to execute a commission for me on behalf of Hull House? I asked him to secure the prices on the large paintings on the walls enclosing his exhibit. They were done on canvas with a brown tone in the background, and represented scenes from the lives of miners.” In fine condition. Accompanied by one of the original mailing envelopes, addressed in Addams’s hand. RR Auction COA.
