Color 5.5 x 3.5 postcard featuring “The New White Star Liner ‘Olympic,’” published by Walton of Belfast, with details of the ship’s physical measurements printed at the bottom, and noting that the Olympic “is 100 feet longer and 12,500 tons more than the Cunard leviathans.” Reverse of the postcard bears a short ALS from a yard worker at Harland & Wolff to his parents in Scotland. In full: “Dear Mother & Father, We are all well. We had another successful launch of the Titanic. We all got 6/6 each and a half holiday.” Card is postmarked June 8, 1911, with a half-penny stamp affixed to top right corner. In fine condition, with a bit of scattered light soiling, and slight show-through of postal cancellations to image side. Titanic was launched into Belfast Lough from Slipway No. 3 at Harland & Wolff Shipyard, Belfast on May 31, 1911. An interesting account from one of the workers who participated in the launch revealing his pay on launch day and the fact that he earned a half-day holiday. RR Auction COA.
