President Truman’s personally-owned book: Blackbirds on the Wing by Mitchel J. Henderson. Philadelphia: Dorrance and Company, 1942. Hardcover, 5.25 x 7.5, 288 pages. Signed and inscribed to Truman on the first free end page by the author, “To Senator Harry S. Truman, with my warmest regards, M. J. Henderson, Dec. 16, 1942.” Truman’s bookplate is affixed to the front pastedown and there is a Library of Congress ‘duplicate’ stamp above the inscription. There is considerable toning to the signed page and some soiling to the front cover. Personal books owned and used by President Truman are incredibly scarce.
