American statesman (1794–1865) renowned for his oratory, best remembered for giving the speech preceding Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. Signed book: Addresses at the Inauguration of the Hon. Edward Everett, LL. D., as President of the University at Cambridge. First edition. Boston: Charles C. Little and James Brown, 1846. Rebound red hardcover, 6 x 9.5, 66 pages. Signed and inscribed on what was originally the front cover in black ink, “Hon. William…with the best respects of Edward Everett.” Autographic condition: scattered soiling to signed page and the top of the recipient’s name cut off, otherwise fine. Book condition: VG+/None.
