Musicians

Collection of four items, each signed by a notable musician, including: Jan Kubelik (postcard photo), Agnes Huntington (cabinet photo), Ferdinand Ries (ALS), and Sims Reeves (cabinet photo). Photos are in fine condition, and the letter is in good condition. Individual descriptions are as follows:

Jan Kubelik: Vintage 3.5 x 5.25 postcard photo of Kubelik posing with his violin, signed in fountain pen. Some scattered light flaking of ink in signature, not affecting overall legibility, a few creases, and moderate toning to reverse, otherwise fine condition.

Agnes Huntington: Soprano best known for her work in comic opera. Original 4.25 x 6.5 cabinet photo by Sarony of New York, signed at the bottom of the image in black ink, “Agnes Huntington.” In fine condition.

Ferdinand Ries: German composer (1784–1838) who was a friend and pupil of Beethoven, considered one of his closest associates. Untranslated ALS in German, three pages on two sheets, 8 x 10, February 28, 1830. In good condition, with complete separations to several intersecting folds (some crudely tape-repaired), overall toning, and very brittle and fragile.

John Sims Reeves: Vintage 4.25 x 6.5 cabinet photo by W. and A. H. Fry of Brighton, signed and inscribed in black ink on the reverse, “To his young friend, De Lara, with kind regards, Sims Reeves, 28 mars 1876.” In very good condition, with clipped top corner, a couple creases, light soiling and silvering to image and reverse, and light contrast to portion of signature and inscription.
