Scarce check from the year of his Pulitzer Prize

Bank check, 6.25 x 2.75, filled out in another hand and signed by Hemingway, “Ernest M. Hemingway,” payable to the bearer for $10, March 2, 1953. Endorsed on the reverse by Roberto Herrera, who was Hemingway’s close friend, part-time secretary, and brother of his Cuban doctor. In fine condition, with a central vertical fold and expected bank stamps (one affecting the first couple letters of signature). Hemingway was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953 for The Old Man and the Sea, which was inspired by his experiences in Cuba. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
