Description

“It seems to me that not to be affiliated to some religious activity is to deprive oneself of a positive intellectual opportunity”

ALS, one page both sides, 7 x 9, July 23, 1962. Interesting letter to Mr. Lichter in response to a curious question, in part: “I am not sure what the word ‘individual’ means in the context of your question. Or, if it comes to that what a ‘mature’ intellect is. I understand people being emotionally mature or immature, but it seems to me the intellect is divorced or separate from that concept. If I had to answer your question—omitting the words ‘mature individual’ because, as I say, I am not sure what you mean by them in this particular case—then I would give an unqualified positive. It seems to me that not to be affiliated to some religious activity is to deprive oneself of a positive intellectual opportunity and, generally speaking, to ignore a well qualified, well recognized yard-stick with which to measure events, morals, and indeed oneself.” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
