Scarce portrait of the early “Ole Man River” singer

Forgotten baritone performer (1897–1943) who was one of the first African-American actors to gain regular employment on Broadway. Vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 photo of Bledsoe in a handsome three-piece suit, signed and inscribed in white ink, “To Mr. Kenneth Baily, With best wishes, Jules Bledsoe, ‘Ole Man River,’ London, 1931.” In fine condition, with light overall rippling to edges and noticeable spreading to ink in the signature and inscription. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
