Scarce William Morris check endorsed by the R&B great

Popular rhythm-and-blues and soul artist (1931–1964) who recorded such hits as ‘You Send Me,’ ‘Cupid,’ and ‘Twistin' the Night Away.’ The 33-year-old singer was shot to death under mysterious circumstances at a Los Angeles hotel on December 11, 1964. Endorsed William Morris Agency business check, 8.25 x 3.75, filled out in type and signed by a member of the agency, payable to Sam Cooke for $56.90, May 7, 1959. Endorsed on the reverse in blue ballpoint, “Sam Cooke.” Three vertical folds, bank stamp to body, and a second endorsement under Cooke’s signature, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by two satin-finish photos of Cooke in the studio. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.
