The ‘Summertime Blues’ teenager explores the intricacies of sound

Handwritten homework assignment, one lined page, 8.5 x 11, signed at the top, “H. W. #5, Eddie Cochran, English VI, Nov. 3, 1953.” Headed “Diacritical Markings,” Cochcran writes 23 phrases to describe the pronunciation of various vowel sounds. In part: “1. a as in labor…8. e as in event…13. o as in old…17. u as in cube…23. oo as in foot.” Cochran did very well on the assignment, missing only one question for a score of 97. In fine condition, with a mild stain to upper left corner. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.
