Western Heritage award presented to Brando for his role in the 1966 film Appaloosa. Award stands 10.5″ tall with a bronze wrangler on horseback mounted on top of a wooden base. Base bears a plaque which reads, “Western Heritage Award of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center presented to Appaloosa, Outstanding Western Motion Picture of 1966 and to Marlon Brando Actor.” In fine condition.
Established in 1961, to honor the legacy of those whose works reflect the stories of the Old West, the National Cowboy Hall of Fame began honoring various Western productions and presented them with the Wrangler award. The first three years, John Wayne dominated the award followed by back-to-back wins by John Ford. Finally in 1966, Brando and The Appaloosa won for best actor as well as best picture. A prestigious award that counts, Wayne, Ford, Robert Redford, and Charlton Heston amongst its recipients. RR Auction COA.
