Production-made coat for Anthony Hopkins for the 1984 film The Bounty designed by John Bloomfield. Navy blue wool double-breasted officer’s coat features two rows of silver buttons, with buttons to the cuffs and pockets as well. Coat also bears gold trim to the collar, cuffs, pockets, and front, which was added later, after filming. Inside bears an Angels costume tag with “40 c. 34w. / 109 Captain / Bounty” typed on it. Also included is a resin lapel badge from a later movie. Accompanied by a letter of provenance which reads, in part: “This ‘Captains’ naval coat from the 1984 film ‘The Bounty’…was made for Anthony Hopkins as Captain William Blight…Some of the uniforms were reused from earlier ‘Mutiny on the Bounty’ film made in 1962, and later, costumes from the 1984 film were to be reused in British television and films…Planet Hollywood displayed the costume during the late 1990s and obtained the costume from Angels of Islington, the English costumer who made the outfit for the film.” In fine condition.
