One letter, dated December 12, 1929, reads, in part, “I am delighted to think that, as a collector of autographs, you desire to place my signature in your collection, where I hope it will long and safely repose…As for a sentiment, I do not know what to say excepting I recall that the remark attributed to General Armstrong, as he faced President Johnson in his Cabinet—that the business of America is to translate the impossible into the possible. I think that my people have had a genius for the same sort of thing, transfiguring not realities into ideals, but transforming ideals into realities.” At the bottom of the page, Wise writes a brief phrase in Hebrew, translating it underneath, as “The Priestly Benediction.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds to each page.
