George S. Kaufman

Pulitzer Prize–winning American critic, humorist, and playwright (1889–1961) best known for You Can’t Take It with You and The Man Who Came to Dinner. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 portrait of Kaufman by preeminent Broadway photography studio Lucas-Pritchard, signed and inscribed in fountain pen to Claire Luce, “For Claire, with my love, George.” In very good condition, with moderate to heavy overall creases and paper loss to upper left corner tip. Accompanied by an ALS to Luce by playwright Howard M. Teichmann, one page, 8.25 x 9.5, personal letterhead, March 3, 1972, in part: “I am returning your photo of George S. Kaufman. It has been reproduced and right now the editors are deciding which picture will be used.” RR Auction COA.
