Description

Complimenting McNamara on his “courageous speech”

TLS signed “Ted,” one page, 6 x 8, United States Senate letterhead, January 11, 1983. Letter to Robert S. McNamara. In part: “The courageous speech you gave last fall at the University of Witwatersrand merits wide attention. Your sobering analysis of the implications of South Africa’s present course raises grave questions as to the wisdom of the Administration’s ‘constructive engagement’ policy. As you may have seen, I took the liberty of having the text of your remarks published in the Congressional Record.” In fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Herman Darvick, stating that the letter originated from the estate of Robert S. McNamara. RR Auction COA.
