Description

The valiant intermediary of the Lindbergh kidnapping who identified Hauptmann at the trial

Longtime educator who wrote an open letter to the Lindbergh kidnappers and acted as a go-between, meeting the kidnappers twice, including once to deliver the ransom. At the trial of Bruno Hauptmann, he proved to be a key witness for the prosecution, identifying him in court. Beautifully penned poetic purple fountain pen signature and inscription on an off-white 6 x 4.5 album page. Condon writes, in full: “To Rose, These lines are written for a Rose / In which great fragrance does repose / The scent of virtue, joy’s perfume / Hope’s aroma, for hate no room / Scattered petals of purest love / Are spread like dew from heaven above / May all these elements joined in one / Be warmed by Life’s eternal Sun. John F. Condon, Principal, P. S. 12, The Bronx.” Page is still housed in its original hardcover autograph album. In fine condition. RR Auction COA.
