American aviatrix (1901–1967) who set a number of notable aviation records in the 1930s. Accused of being a spy under the provisions of the 1938 Foreign Agents Registration Act, she was jailed for more than a year in 1942–43. Despite the support of such notables as Eddie Rickenbacker, Ingalls was never pardoned.
