Four items: glossy 10 x 8 photo of Val Guest on set, signed in black felt tip; ALS by Anthony Harvey, signed “Tony,” two pages, 6.5 x 8, personal letterhead, October 7, 1969. Letter to director George Cukor. In part: “I wanted to write and say how much I enjoyed ‘Justine’…it was a joy to watch a film put together with so much skill, at a time when films seem to be made by home movie makers—it had a really superb performance from Dirk—what a brilliant actor he is”; ALS by Sidney Hayers, one page, 8.25 x 11, personal letterhead, July 1, 1989. Letter to an admirer on the filmmaking craft. In part: “‘The White Trap,’ is not ‘The Trap,’ it has a completely different story and in fact was the very first picture that I directed…No one, unless he’s a fool, sets out to make a bad picture, it is the easiest thing in the world to be critical and destructive, unfortunately very few of the critics realize that films change from their original concept for budgeting and therefore time cutting reasons”; and an ALS by Hugh Hudson, two pages, 5.75 x 8.25, Sussex House letterhead, May 2, no year. Letter to director George Cukor. In part: “Thank you very much for having me at your pre-Academy lunch for foreign directors. It was such a pleasure…to talk to the many directors whom I have so long admired and been influenced by.” In overall fine condition. RR Auction COA.
