Original Western Union typed telegram sent to Jack Ruby at “The Dallas Texas Court House Basement,” one page, 8.5 x 5.5, stamp-dated November 24, 1963. Telegram sent by Mrs. G. F. Gage within hours of the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald. In full: “Congratulations—you had the courage to do what the rest of the world would like to have done.” In fine condition, with unobtrusive intersecting folds. According to officer James Leavelle, Ruby once said of his motives, ‘Well, all I wanted to do was be a hero.’ While he did receive numerous telegrams praising his actions, Ruby found no sympathy from the prosecutors or jury—in March of 1964, he received a death sentence after being convicted of murder with malice.
