Unsigned Elizabethan-era manuscript DS, one page, 17.25 x 4.5, November 8, 1586. Period copy of a document appointing a commission to judge a land dispute, which had been issued by Lord William Cecil to the appointees. In part: “Elizabeth, by the Grace of God, Quene of England, France & Ireland, Defendour of the Faithe, etc. To our trusty and welbeloved John Steward…William Wallpoole…& John Eychard…Greetings. Where there is a matter in variance dependinge in our courte of wardes and liveries between Charles Cornwalles, Esq, Plaintiff, and Henry Ellis, Defendent, for concerninge of the validitye of a lease claymed by the said Henry Ellis, we therefore for the confidence & trust that of which we do repose in you, have named and appointed you our commissioners.” Multiple vertical storage folds and light soiling, otherwise fine condition.
