Color vintage 3.5 x 3.5 candid snapshot photo of McCartney and John Lennon in the back seat of a car, signed on the reverse in blue ballpoint by McCartney, with a collector’s notation at the top indicating the photo was taken on May 13, 1968, and signed in July of 1968. Creases to edges and corners, an impression of an unsuccessful start to a signature on the front, and an impression to image from signature on reverse, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original recipient who obtained the signature as McCartney was entering the EMI Studios in London. Also accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks. Photo was taken in New York City the day before Lennon and McCartney were appearing on The Tonight Show. They gave a 22-minute interview to guest hosts Joe Garagiola and Tallulah Bankhead where they announced the formation of Apple Corp. Unfortunately, the tape was erased by NBC, as was common practice back then, and only a two-minute segment of the interview was captured by a fan with an 8mm camera pointed at his television. Candid images of any Beatle member are quite rare, particularly of this late date. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.
