Description

Early photo presented to the director of their 1964 TV special

Extraordinary vintage semi-glossy 9.75 x 7 photo of the Beatles on stage circa 1963, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “John [L]ennon, To Rita, Love from the Beatles,” “Paul McCartney,” “George Harrison,” and “Ringo Starr.” In very good condition, with three trimmed edges (the “L” in Lennon’s signature is trimmed off), a few unobtrusive creases, spot of surface loss at George’s knee and upper right corner, and all signatures but Ringo’s a few shades light. The Beatles presented the photo to television director Rita Gillespie, who directed the music show Boy Meet Girls from 1959 to 1960, as well as the Beatles’ 1964 TV special, Around the Beatles. Also includes an original color glossy 4.5 x 4.5 photo of Gillespie on a TV set, surrounded by the Fab Four dressed in court jester costumes. An especially impressive piece, given the early date and entertainment-world association. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.
