Hays respoinds to a woman’s inquiry about ‘Dixie,’ penning the first verse and chorus of the song. Song begins: “Dixie lan’ am de lan’ of cotton / Cinnamon seed and Sandy bottom, / Away, away, we gwine down to Dixie…We gwine down to Dixie, away, away / We gwine down to Dixie lain.” Signed at the conclusion, “William S.
