Appointment for the man who would become Napoleon’s most trusted physician

Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “George R,” one page, 13.25 x 9.25, August 23, 1799. King George appoints Archibald Arnott as a “surgeon in our Twentieth (or East Devonshire) Regiment of Foot.” Paper seal affixed to the left side remains fully intact. In very good condition, with three moderate vertical storage folds and overall foxing and soiling. Arnott became a notable British Army surgeon, today best remembered as Napoleon's last physician on St. Helena, where he quickly became the emperor’s most trusted doctor.
