President McKinley appoints Benjamin Alvord as “Captain of Infantry in the service of the United States.” Signed at the conclusion by McKinley and countersigned by Secretary of War Segal. Blue seal affixed to the lower left remains fully intact with a central vertical crease. Rolled and in very good condition, with multiple vertical storage folds (two passing through letters of McKinley’s bold signature), scattered creases, and brushing to Segal’s signature.
