Description

“My only doubt about appointing him to the Interstate Commerce Commission is his age”

TLS as president, one page, 7 x 8.75, White House letterhead, June 25, 1917. Letter to Treasury Secretary William McAdoo. In full: “Thank you for your letter about Judge Adamson. My only doubt about appointing him to the Interstate Commerce Commission is his age. He is sixty-three years old, and I have been fighting off all appointments of men over sixty. The appointment is for seven years, as you know, and the Judge would be seventy when his first term ended.” In fine condition, with light overall haloing to typed text, not affecting the legibility. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
