Pioneering American entrepreneur and philanthropist (1795–1869) who lent his support to such venerable institutions as the Peabody Institute in Baltimore and the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. In part: “The goods from Georgetown have all arrived safe—the bill I hope to receive tomorrow—as also some remittances from you, as I have about 2500$ to pay on Thursday, and have at present none on hand…The most I could possibly obtain for drafts on Philadelphia was 3 1/2 per Ct—I know a person who purchased 10,000$ today at 3.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, uniform toning, and paper loss to right edge of second page from wax seal.
