TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, November 18, 1980. Adams declines an invitation from a California chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In full: “I am deeply honored that your fine organization should select me for your Conservation Award. I understand that you wish to present it at a luncheon in San Jose in March. I regret that my wife and I won’t be able to attend. My health has been a bit shakey [sic] this year and my doctors don’t allow any non-essential travels. My experience that essential travel is defined by trips to the doctor or hospital. I have made a good recovery from a bout with pneumonia this summer but find that anything extra on my normal schedule and commitments just takes too much energy and I wind up exhausted. I certainly understand that you may decide not to award me with this Medal since I won’t be able to personally accept it.” A rusty staple hole at the top left corner, and a small strip of staining at the right edge, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. RR Auction COA.
