Film director (1900–1973) known for his melodramatic noir thrillers. ALS, one page, 8.25 x 5.75, personal letterhead, June 2, 1972. Letter to an admirer. In part: “It was a great pleasure for me to write about Mrs. Stanwick [sic]. As you know I made only one film with her. As I recall in 1948/ or 9…I had left Germany one day after Hitler came to power—left France one day before the war broke out—and Hollywood one year before Cinemascope was invented. I always knew when to leave.” In fine condition, with a few vertical folds. The film which Siodmak refers to is The File on Thelma Jordon, which starred Barbara Stanwyck and was released in 1950.
