“Gen’l Lee is on the move, we hope, into Maryland”

Confederate admiral (1800–1874) who captained the ironclad CSS Virginia during the Civil War. ALS signed “Frank’n Buchanan,” one page, lightly-lined, 7.5 x 2.75, no date. Partial letter regarding tactical movement. In full: “All eyes are turned on our Armies in Mississippi, sincerely do I hope you may thank them well; Gen’l Lee is on the move, we hope, into Maryland. We are all quiet here.” Professionally inlaid into a slightly larger off-white sheet. In fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned original carte-de-visite portrait of Buchanan. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
