Sending an officer under Beauregard’s direction to repair railroads in Georgia

Chief engineer of the Confederate States Army (1818–1883). War-dated LS signed “J. F. Gilmer,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, Confederate States of America, War Department letterhead, January 21, 1865. Letter to General G. T. Beauregard. In part: “I have the honor to enclose herewith for your information a copy of a letter of Instructions which I have given to Maj. E. T. D. Myers…a member of the Commission for Collecting & Distributing Rail Road Iron, Maj. Myers goes to Georgia for the purpose of aiding in procuring, under your direction and authority, Iron for repair of the broken Roads in Georgia.” Letter is inlaid to a slightly larger sheet. Repair to a complete separation to top horizontal fold and some light show-through from docketing on reverse, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
