Description

James A. Beaver

Union general and politician (1837–1914) who lost his leg in the Battle of Reams’ Station, and later served as the 20th governor of Pennsylvania. Partly-printed DS, signed “James A. Beaver, Col. 148 P. V. Commdg. Brig.,” one page, 8 x 10, November 17, 1863. A “Special Requisition” for the 3rd Brigade requesting supplies “to cover deficiencies existing in the Brigade, including tools for Brigade train.” Among the supplies requested are 150 Forage caps, 234 Infantry coats, 382 Waterproof blankets, 265 Knapsacks, and 180 Canteens.” Beaver signs with approval along the left side of the page. Document is inlaid to a slightly larger off-white sheet. In fine condition, with a uniform shade of mild toning and a small area of paper replacement to top left corner tip. RR Auction COA.
