Unsigned manuscript telegram in from Edwin M. Stanton to General Carl Schurz, one page both sides, 5.25 x 8, sent from the American Telegraph Co., July 11, 1865. In part: “The authority and instructions conferred upon you by the letter of this Department dated the seventh of this month are—By order of the President—extended to the Departments of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi & the Gulf.” Central vertical and horizontal folds, a band of toning to the left border, various edge chips and tiny tears, and a few stray blotches of ink, otherwise very good condition.
