Description

Edward Everett

American statesman (1794–1865) renowned for his oratory, best remembered for giving the speech preceding Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. Original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite bust portrait of Everett, signed in the lower border in black ink, and signed and inscribed on the reverse, “For Miss Marie Tillotson, in the hope that she will relent, and grant him the much desired reward. E. E., Philadelphia, 5 Dec. 1863.” Published by F. Gutekunst of Philadelphia. In fine condition, with a light area of toning to the reverse (slightly affecting the inscription). Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
