Stephen C. Rowan

Vice admiral in the US Navy (1808–1890) who commanded the broadside ironclad New Ironsides on blockade duty off Charleston. Original 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite bust portrait of Rowan in uniform, signed at the bottom of the image in black ink, “S. C. Rowan,” adding his rank below. Published by F. Gutekunst of Philadelphia. An area of foxing to the lower left (not affecting the bold signature), and clipped corners, otherwise fine condition. The first Rowan signed photo we have offered. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
