“Fate denied them victory, but clothed them with glorious immortality”

Confederate general who later served as a congressman from Alabama (1841–1922). Scarce original 3.5 x 5.5 postcard photo of the Confederate Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Baltimore, signed in the lower border in black ink, “Geo. P. Harrison, Major Gen’l Ala. Div. U. C. V.” Harrison also pens a line of poetry on the reverse entitled “The Confederates,” in full: “‘Fate denied them victory, but clothed them with glorious immortality.” In fine condition.
