Colonel in the Union Army (1842–1864) who was killed while commanding an unsuccessful raid on Richmond, resulting in the ‘Dahlgren Affair’—papers found on his body contained plans to assassinate Jefferson Davis and his cabinet, which stirred up nationwide controversy. Original 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite full-length portrait of of Dahlgren in uniform, signed and inscribed on the reverse in black ink, “Miss Dixon, with compliments of Ulric Dahlgren, Genl Sigel’s Staff.” Published by R.
