Description

Franz Sigel

German military officer, revolutionist, and immigrant to the United States (1824–1902) who served as a Union major general. Original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite bust portrait of Sigel in uniform, signed at the bottom of the image in black ink, “F. Sigel, Maj. Gen.” Also signed and inscribed on the reverse, “For the Sanitary Fair, New York, from F. Sigel, Maj. Gen. Reading, Pa., Febu. 24th 64.” Published by Hoelke & Benecke of St. Louis. In fine condition, with clipped corners. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
