Dudley Nichols

Screenwriter (1895–1960) who came to prominence after winning and refusing the Academy Award for The Informer in 1936. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Sol Lesser Productions letterhead, May 11, 1951. Letter to MGM executive Eddie Mannix. In part: “Most of us, in drawing our wills, look about for some deserving organization through which we can express our personal gratitude for our own good fortune. We feel that for those of us who have been part of the great motion picture industry, there could be no finer expression of our appreciation than a remembrance to the Motion Picture Relief Fund in our wills…We trust you will give this suggestion your earnest consideration.” Signed at the conclusion by Sol Lesser, Jean Hersholt, Dudley Nichols, Gregson Bautzer, and Michael B.
