“We never talked but for the film which we both detested (slave contract)”

Film director (1911–2008) who moved to France after being subjected to the McCarthy-era Hollywood blacklist. ALS signed “Jules,” one page, 5.25 x 3.25, personal letterhead, February 28, 1985. Letter to author Patrick McGilligan. In part: “It is some 40–43 years that I worked with Lucille Ball. There was no personal relationship—we never talked but for the film which we both detested (slave contract). Her professional comportment was impeccable.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, filled out in Dassin’s hand. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
