Description

While mired in the Vietnam War, LBJ authorizes the high-level appointment of his new CIA director

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 23 x 19, April 28, 1965. Johnson appoints “Vice Admiral William F. Raborn, United States Navy…Director of Central Intelligence.” Signed at the conclusion by Johnson and countersigned by Secretary of State Dean Rusk. Document is affixed to an identical size mount. In fine condition. The white wafer seal is crisp and intact. Raborn would have difficulty in this position due to a lack of understanding of the agency and its primary job, resigning after only 14 months on the job. Such high level appointments are seldom offered for sale. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
