Beautifully presented military appointment

Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 15 x 18, March 18, 1875. President Grant appoints Judson D. Bingham as “Deputy Quartermaster General with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the service of the United States.” Signed at the conclusion by Grant and countersigned by William W. Belknap as secretary of war. Beautifully double-matted and framed with a portrait and nameplate to an overall size of 35.5 x 29. The crisp gold seal affixed to the upper left remains fully intact. In fine condition, with intersecting storage folds. Oversized.
