Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt and Thelma Lady Furness

Vanderbilt (1904-1965) was a socialite and wife of Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt, heir to his family’s fortune. She is best known as the mother of fashion designer and artist Gloria Vanderbilt. Furness (1904–1970) was her twin sister and the mistress of King Edward VIII—she introduced Edward to his future wife, Wallis Simpson. Signed book: Double Exposure. Second printing. NY: David McKay Company, 1958. Hardcover, 5.75 x 8.5, 369 pages. Signed on the first free end page in blue ballpoint, “Gloria Vanderbilt,” and signed and inscribed, “To Betty, with my very best wishes, Thelma Furness,” with the bottom of the page dated November 14, 1959. A block of toning to the left side of the signed page and a bookplate affixed to the front pastedown, otherwise fine condition. RR Auction COA.
