Horatio Seymour

Governor of New York who lost the presidential election of 1868 to U. S. Grant (1810–1886). ALS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 8, July 26, 1869. Letter to “Miss Seymour.” In part: “I remember my conversation with your father about the Old Parish Church in your county and I stated my willingness to aid in its restoration…it will give me great satisfaction to shew my regard for the memory of your father by aiding his daughter in the…task of restoring an edifice which may be dedicated to the service of God and the spreading of Christian truths.” In very good condition, with overall creasing, partial separation to adjoining fold, and various blocks of toning.
