Description

Rare Beaton portrait of the controversial royal couple

Superb vintage matte-finish 9 x 10 portrait of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor by Cecil Beaton affixed to a 11.75 x 15.75 mount, signed on the left side of the image in fountain pen, “Edward, Nassau—1941,” and “Wallis Windsor.” Also signed on the mount in red artist’s pencil, “Beaton.” Paper loss to the upper left corner of the mount, not affecting the photo or its immediate border (could be easily matted out), otherwise fine condition. A fantastic portrait by one of the period’s most famous British photographers, and one of a scant handful of photos signed by both the Duke and Duchess that we have encountered. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
