Supreme Court: Benjamin Robbins Curtis

Supreme Court justice from 1851 to 1857, especially notable as one of the two dissents in the Dred Scott decision; as an attorney, he served as chief counsel for Andrew Johnson during his first impeachment trial (1809–1874). ALS signed “B. R. Curtis,” one page, 5 x 8, no date. Letter to C. H. Bull, Esq. In part: “The draft of the bill…seems to be correct. I doubt if Judge Parker will act. If I do not hear from him soon I shall think it certain he will not.” In fine condition. RR Auction COA.
