Description

Wizard of Oz: Ray Bolger

TLS, one page, 7 x 10.25, personal letterhead, May 5, 1950. Letter of thanks to a woman for sending an inkwell. In part: “Your hilarious gift just arrived and I am overcome with the beauty of its ugliness! Can you imagine the mixed emotions of dear, departed Etienne Giradoux…who was the original Charley’s Aunt in this country…Who knows, perhaps it holds the elixir of life or a genii [sic] of long-life-to-actors—nothing so prosaic as ink belongs in its brass belly.” Small tear to last line of postscript, old tape toning and remnants to edges, and slight paper loss to bottom left corner, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by a carbon of the woman’s letter to Bolger presenting the inkwell, as well as a small news clipping of the event and background of the production. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
